Albert Fitts, 87, of Springfield, formerly of Branson, died Monday, April 29, 2019 at his residence. Graveside services, with military honors, will be at 12:00 noon, May 9th in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Springfield.
Albert Leonard Fitts was born Saturday, May 16, 1931 in Ackerly, TX to Aubry and Othel (Shortes) Fitts. He attended school in Ackerly and in 1948 he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and served in the Korean War. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Sgt. at Camp Lejeune, NC in 1952.He was awarded the Korean Service Medal, U.N. Service Medal and the Presidential Unit Citation. Following his discharge, he began working for the U. S. Postal Service as a letter carrier. He married Nora Davidson on August 6, 1956. In 1964 he moved his family to Springfield, MO and continued working for the U.S. Postal Service. He retired from Springfield after thirty-one years as a letter carrier. He and Nora moved to Branson in 2002 and later moved back to Springfield.
He was a member of the American Legion and Baptist Faith. He enjoyed gardening and being with his wife and family.
He is survived by his wife, Nora of Springfield; a son, Leo Fitts of Nixa; a daughter, Gwen Hamilton also of Nixa; a brother, Oran Fitts and wife, Betty of Odessa, TX; sister, Margie Humble of San Angelo, TX, eight grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Buford Fitts and a sister Joyce Kiser.
