Mrs. Barbara J. Purinton, 82, of Forsyth died Monday, February 12, 2018 at her residence. Memorial services will from 1 to 3:00 P.M. Saturday, February 24, 2018 at the Maple Hill Funeral Home Kansas City, KS.

Barbara Jan Purinton was born Tuesday, September 17, 1935 in Blackwell, OK to Willie Lloyd and Esther Patricia (Kabler) Neel. She attended school in Blackwell and graduated with the class of 1953. She became a Licensed Practical Nurse. During this time, she met William "Bill" Purinton. They were married June 23, 1956 in Blackwell. She and Bill moved to Kansas City, Kansas. Barbara worked for several hospitals in all aspects of LPN nursing in Kansas City. She then attended Johnson City Community College in Overland Park, KS where she received an Associate's degree in Management Consulting. She also was a softball umpire for the Parks and Recreations in Kansas City, KS. Billy died in 1993 and Barbara continued to work until she retired in 2003. Ten years later, she moved to Forsyth to be near her daughter.

Barbara was a member of the Community Women's Starlight Theater and the Metropolitan Spiritual Church of Christ in Kansas City, MO. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, traveling, singing with the church choir, shopping and spending time with her family. She was a loving, caring, feisty and strong independent lady that met life's challenges head on. She was a good listener, very compassionate, sharp minded and a hard worker.

She is survived by two daughters, Janet Pillow and husband, Fred of Forsyth, Lea Ann Bess and husband, Kenneth of Kansas City, KS; adopted daughters, Debby and Joyce Quisenberry of Kansas City, KS; eight grandchildren, Maggie McCracken, Jacob, Shawn and Tanner Walsh, Kevin and Kammi Bess and Charlene Bess Rinehart and sixteen great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, William "Billy" Purinton and one brother, James Neel.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Kissee-Schofield-Eakins Funeral Home, Forsyth, MO.
