Janice "Jan" McCabe, 75, of Rockaway Beach died Wednesday, June 5, 2019 in Cox Medical Center South in Springfield. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, June 15th in the Forsyth United Methodist Church.
Janice Elaine McCabe was born Sunday, April 23, 1944 in Council Bluffs, IA to Richard Allison and Joyce Elizabeth (Avery) Rail. After graduating from high school, she became a licensed beautician and practiced in a beauty shop in Kansas City, MO. She eventually bought the beauty shop and ran it for over ten years. She volunteered in a food pantry in Kansas City and moved to Houston, TX where she started a pantry. She also spearheaded literacy training in the area. She then moved to Tennessee where she again started a food pantry. Later she and her husband moved to Rockaway Beach where she organized a food pantry in Rockaway Beach that later was moved to Forsyth.
Janice was a member of the Sweet Adelines that performed in Branson. She was a member of the Invitational League of Women Bowlers. In her free time, she enjoyed wood carving and photography. She was a member of the Reorganized Church of Latter Day Saints. Everyone who knew her adored her friendly, outgoing personality.
She is survived by her husband, Ernest McCabe of Rockaway Beach; two brothers, Richard Rail and wife Lahea of Phoenix, AZ, Craig M. Rail of Colorado; two sisters, Roberta Lawrence of Kansas City, MO, and Toni Rail of Forsyth, MO.
She is preceded in death by her parents.
