Joe E. Gilmore, 75, of Taneyville died Monday, December 18, 2017 in Cox Medical
Center Branson. Military graveside services in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery will
be announced at a later date.
Joseph Edward Gilmore, Jr. was born Saturday, April 18, 1942 in Virginia to Joseph
Edward and Marion Elizabeth Gilmore. Due to being raised in a career military family,
Joe has lived all over the world. After finishing school, he enlisted in the U. S. Air
Force and began his training in San Antonio, TX. While stationed at Offutt A.F.B,
near Omaha, NE, he was introduced to Theresa "Teri" Welch. They were married on
June 22, 1970 in Santa Paula, CA. Joe made the Air Force his career. Joe was a
Cryptologic Linguist Superintendent for the Air Force. He received the Bronze Star,
Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal with twenty-one Oak Leaf Clusters, AF Good
Conduct with five Oak Leaf Clusters, Armed forces Expeditionary Medal, NCO
Professional Military Education Ribbon, Combat Readiness Medal with one Oak Leaf
Cluster, AF Longevity Service Ribbon with four Oak Leaf Clusters and the Vietnam
Service Medal. In 1983 he retired after twenty- one years with the rank of Master
Sergeant and moved to Forsyth, MO.
Joe had a great sense of humor and was a 'Grinch with a heart of gold' that would
do anything for anyone. Although, at times he could be quite stubborn. He enjoyed
gambling, watching John Wayne movies, the History Chanel and fishing. He was a
member of the V.F.W Post 5168. and B.P.O.E. # 2597.
He is survived by a daughter, Marcella Gilmore of Taneyville; two brothers, David
Gilmore and wife, Nancy of CA, Eddie Gilmore of NV; two grandchildren, Haley
Gilmore and Zak Gilmore and two great-grandchildren, Kaylee Gilmore and Kaylin
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Theresa "Terri" Gilmore; son, William
"Billy" Gilmore and one sister, Connie Brown.
