Melvin Monroe, 67, of Forsyth died Saturday, November 11, 2017 in Cox South
Springfield. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, November 17 in the
Dickens Cemetery, Taneyville, MO. with Reverend Dr. Larry Kackley officiating.
Melvin Grant Monroe was born Monday, May 8, 1950 in Wellston, MO to Oren Melvin
and Loretta Ivedean (Lacy) Monroe. He graduated from the Normandy High School
in St. Louis in the class of 1969. He stayed in St. Louis and worked as a custodian
for a local hospital. Later he became a printer for Mel's Print Shop in St. Louis. He
later became a truck driver for a few years and moved to Taney County in 1996 to
be near his sons. Although he was semi-retired he drove a school bus for the
Forsyth School District.
Melvin had a great sense of humor and loved to crack jokes and make people laugh.
He greatly enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing pool and cards. But most of all he
cherished spending time with his sons. He was a loving father and grandfather.
He is survived by three sons; James Monroe and wife, Angela of Kissee Mills, MO,
Jeff Monroe and wife, Tina of Cedar creek, MO, and Adam Monroe and wife, De
Andra of Kissee Mills; one daughter, Amy Gorski and husband, Dave of St. Louis,
MO; twelve grandchildren, Katelynd, Samantha, Harlee, Nicole, Jerimiah, Misty,
Dominic, Madison, Destiny, David, Eric and Brian; three great-grandchildren,
Aubrea, Ashleigh and Kairi.
He is preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Gary Monroe.
