Richard Overcast, 87, of Cedar Creek died Wednesday, June 27, 2018 in Cox Health in Springfield.

The visitation is from 10:00 to 11:00 AM Friday, June 29th in the Kissee-Schofield-Eakins Funeral Home. The funeral will be at 11:00 AM in the funeral Home with Pastor Isaac Peterson officiating. Interment will be in the Brown Cemetery, Kissee Mills.

Richard Clinton Overcast was born Thursday, July 3, 1930 in Portales, NM to Claude Ross and Anna Leona (Elder) Overcast. The family moved to Samnorwood, TX where Richard attended school. He graduated from the Samnorwood High School in the class of 1949. While in high school, he met Juanita Loring. They were married July 19, 1949 in Samnorwood. In 1951 he went to work for Southwestern Bell in Texas. He and Juanita moved to Amarillo, TX where they lived for a few years and moved to Shamrock, TX. While with Southwestern Bell, he was a switchman, lineman, installer and repairman. He was with Southwestern Bell for thirty years retiring in 1981. Following his retirement, they moved to Cedar Creek where they have lived since 1981.

After retiring to Cedar Creek, Richard enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting, walking and tying jigs. He was a very happy, positive, joyful, “glass half-full kind of guy.” He was willing to help others and was very giving. He “never met a cookie he didn’t like. He was always in charge until the end. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers and Cedar Creek Volunteer Fire Department. He was very spiritual man, a wonderful provider and took great care of his family. He was a member and Deacon of the Open-Door Community Church of Cedar Creek.

He is survived by his wife, Juanita of Cedar Creek; a son-in-law, Rickie Arnold of Shamrock, TX; a sister-in-law, Carroll Warren of Trent, TX; two brothers, Melvin Overcast and wife, Ruth of Washburn, TX, Claude Ernest Overcast and wife, Sharon of Mena, AR; a sister, Thelma Jett of Union, ME; two grandchildren, Michell Lusk and husband, Stephen of Lubbock, TX, Denise Campbell and husband, Jeff of Fritch, TX; five great-grandchildren, Riley, Zeke, Tyler, Todd and Mallory and two great-great-grandchildren, Hunter and Emberly.

He is preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Rose Anna Arnold; two brothers, William and Lawrence Overcast.

Memorials in memory of Richard Overcast may be made to the Open-Door Community Church, 4424 St. Hwy M. Cedar Creek, MO 65627.
