Donald George Soderstrom was 77 at the time of his death. He was home at the time and died in a swing on the deck. The memorial service will be held at Church 316 at the Taney Center in Forsyth on Monday, October 5th at 2:00 P.M.
He was born in Chicago, Illinois on December 1, 1942 to George & Evelyn Soderstrom. He attended Lindop Elementary School in Broadview, IL., Proviso High School in Maywood, IL. Graduated in1960 and headed for IIT in Chicago, IL. where he graduated with an MBA in 1966. After graduation, he started with IBM as a System’s Engineer. After working there several years he went to Continental Bank in Chicago, IL and worked his way up to become a Vice President. Bank of America bought Continental out and he retired from there in 1995 after 25 years of service. While with IBM, Donald met his wife Sandy at Chicago Sun Times which was one of his accounts. Two years later they were married in Batavia, IL. on May 9, 1970.
Don loved remodeling homes, woodworking and making furniture. Also, he loved gardening and working outside in nature. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Forsyth, MO for 12 years where he taught Sunday School for several years and recently moved to Church 316 in Forsyth.
He was a kind hearted man who loved the word of God and teaching it. Don loved traveling and went on several cruises. He was always there to help others with a helping hand any time you called on him. He was also a gentle spoken man and one of few words.
Don is survived by his wife Sandy.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Evelyn Bertelsen in 1970 and George LeRoy in 1982.
